Senator John Kerry delivered a brilliant speech on Wednesday morning at the Center for American Progress Action Fund entitled “A New Approach to Fighting Terrorism.” Kerry’s speech reflected his recent findings from his Middle East trip to Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Egypt earlier this month and outlined his proposals to deal more effectively with Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iraq, [...]

In all the publicity about the ‘veep’ list, a few names continue to surface other then Hillary Clinton. We’ve heard about Tim Kaine (BTW: who the hell is he?), Evan Bayh, a couple of Republicans (screw ‘em) and then the one other name that keeps popping up: Joe Biden.
My personal take is that Joe Biden [...]

A federal grand jury indicted Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska today, on “on seven felony counts alleging that he lied to conceal his acceptance of $250,000 in gifts and services from a now-defunct Alaska oil services and construction company.”
Stevens notified senior Republicans that he’d abide by a Senate Republican rule and temporarily step down from [...]

Now that Barack Obama is back in the U.S., after his whirlwind trip to the Middle East and Europe, he’s ready to start focusing on the “top issue for American voters — the faltering U.S. economy.”
That’s welcome news, because every one I speak to from friends to business associates are all concerned with economic issues. As [...]

The Boston Herald reported today that an “upbeat U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy completed his last day of radiation and chemotherapy treatment yesterday, according to an e-mail to friends and family from wife Vicki Kennedy.”
“He remained strong and was able to stay on schedule throughout this shock-and-awe phase of the treatment and his doctors - [...]

According to Congress Daily, 9 of 12 targeted Republicans running in the most competitive U.S. Senate races this fall “are either skipping the Republican convention in St. Paul, Minn., or have not decided whether to attend.”
Among those who will not attend: Ted Stevens of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine and Bob Schaffer of Colorado.
Six others [...]

Chris Bowers makes a startling proposal about offshore oil drilling and the Arctic Wildlife Refuge, as part of a longer article published at Open Left and The Daou Report:
Let’s face it: the best political strategy Democrats have had over the past eight years is to make sure that there were always enough Democrats to capitulate [...]

Hillary Clinton took on the Bush Administration’s plan to define birth control as abortion and undermine women’s rights, today in a press conference and the blogosphere. Here’s a clip from the press conference:

I haven’t seen the new Batman movie yet, The Dark Knight. But, I just read that Senator Patrick Leahy has a brief part in the film and commented on it on The Hill Blog today:
This, more than any earlier film, explores the psychotic nature of the Joker, but also the psychological conflicts in the Batman. It [...]

For most of us this is our introduction to Tom Udall’s important campaign in New Mexico. At stake is a Republican seat that we can take and turn Democrat. We need to support this campaign and take another seat to solidify our majority in the US Senate.

John McCain needs to get a grip. He’s either slipping a little or his mind is so filled with concern about his disorganized, constantly changing campaign that he can’t concentrate on the words coming out of his mouth.
Every day it seems, McCain drops out a comment that makes everyone stop for a moment in mid-stride, [...]
