There’s Nothing Wrong With Kansas

I’ll be honest. I’ve never been to Kansas so I don’t know if there is or isn’t anything wrong there. But I’ve read the book and was unimpressed. I also read all over about how all the poor working class folk are always voting against their economic interest. Anecdotally, I always felt this to be the exact opposite. Statistically, it’s also wrong. Larry Bartels tells us why Obama’s “cling to” narrative is wrong, and: …it is wrong on virtually...

Political Log Rolling in the Clinton Campaign

April 15, 2008 3:13 am
By

It was just an old-fashioned case of political log rolling. In this case, the Clinton campaign approached a Democratic county commissioner and held up a political carrot—if the commissioner, the only Democrat of the three commissioners, would endorse Sen. Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination, they would do their best to provide President Bill Clinton as a speaker in the commissioner’s county.            “Well, OK. That’s a pretty fair deal,” the Bloomsburg (Pa.) Press Enterprise quoted Commissioner David Kovach as...

I am Bitter

I have to admit something here… I am bitter. I am bitter about the economy. And, I am bitter about the war. Barack Obama is right that people in this country are bitter. Where Barack Obama got it wrong however, was in drawing the condescending correlations that he did about small town and rual Americans, while talking to a group of wealthy donors in San Francisco. The thing is, people don’t “cling to guns or religion” because they are...

Obama Campaign Purges 900 Potential Delegates in CA

April 9, 2008 10:59 pm

Here’s the latest in news about the fight for the Democratic nomination… In California both the Obama and Clinton campaigns are “purging potential California delegates to ensure that only their loyalists vote at the national convention that will crown one of them as the Democratic presidential nominee.” The Obama camp has purged 18 times more delegates than the Clinton camp to the tune of some 900 “potential” delegates purged by camp Obama: Driven by fears that some prospective delegates might...

Why Hillary Clinton Should Be Winning

April 7, 2008 10:37 pm
By

Sean Wilentz backs up what was said a few days ago by Wesley Little on Rasmussen (see post here): “Under a winner-take-all primary system, Hillary Clinton would have a wide lead over Barack Obama — and enough delegates to clinch the nomination by June.” We’ve been having a few discussions here on The Dem Daily about the Democrats convoluted mess of a system to choose a nominee — Wilentz is on the money: Sphere: Related Content

Michigan & Florida: Make Sure They Have a Voice

Politico reports today that the DNC and the “Clinton and Obama campaigns are considering a plan that would seat all 26 superdelegates from Florida along with the state’s 185 delegates, a Florida Democratic Party official said.” Under the plan, the 26 superdelegates would get a full vote at the convention. But the 185 delegates would have their votes reduced by half. The plan would give Clinton a net of 19 votes, since Clinton won 67 percent of the vote, the...

A coalition of “18 states, two cities and 11 environmental groups” has fikled a lawsuit against the Bush administration “to force it to comply with a Supreme Court ruling that rebuked what justices called inaction on global warming.” In April 2007, the Supreme Court said “that carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels is a pollutant subject to the Clean Air Act” and the court “directed the EPA to determine if carbon dioxide emissions, linked to global warming, endanger public health and welfare.” Sphere:...

For everyone who’s had concerns about the mess with Michigan and Florida and those who knew there was more amiss than they thought, the HuffPo has the definitive read on “How the GOP Rigged Florida and Michigan,” written by Wayne Barrett who has been “a staff writer and senior editor at the Village Voice for 30 years.” Consider it a must read. The sad end to it all: What started out years ago as Howard Dean’s 50-state organizing strategy for...
