For getting a proper majority in the United States Senate, the Democratic Party needs to win two Senate seats from the state of Georgia to overpower the existing majority of the Republican Party. President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will have real executive and legislative power in their hands for the next four years only if they acquire the majority in the US Senate. Therefore, we can say, the elections in Georgia would decide how for the next four years the Democratic Party will function, i.e. with complete and absolute power or not.
For this purpose, Joe Biden will campaign for the Democratic candidates in Georgia next week. Joe Biden will reach Atlanta for the campaigning purpose on Tuesday. There, he will campaign for the two Democratic Party candidates Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock. These elections will be conducted on the 5th January 2021, just 15 days before Joe Biden will step into the shoes of the 46th President of the United States, i.e. on 20th January 2021.
Competition is Tough
Biden had won in Georgia with a very little margin in the November elections and for 20 long years, the Republican Party has been winning the two Senate seats from Georgia. Therefore, it is a tough contest but since the Democratic Party won, even if by a small margin, Biden has hopes that they might win I the forthcoming elections and claim their majority.
To oppose Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock, the candidates from the Republican Party are David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler. They are currently the Senators and with a very low margin, did not win the November elections. Therefore, the result that will come out of these elections is still quite uncertain. Also, the Republicans are putting in efforts and campaigning. President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence have been to Georgia to attain the votes.
Joe Biden’s Efforts
Biden has stated about his efforts and policies that are for the ongoing battle with the coronavirus pandemic and the fall in an economy that has happened because of the same. He is also taking the issue f climate change very seriously. The coronavirus pandemic is something that needs a lot of attention and the Democratic Party has been vocal about it. In this case, this party overrules the Republican Party because Donald Trump avoided addressing the issue of this pandemic during the time of his campaigning for the Presidential Elections.
Biden is introducing and making additions to his cabinet which should look diversified. The Senate majority is very essential and the Democratic Party is just two seats far from it. Therefore, Biden and the Democratic Party as a whole are leaving no stone unturned so that they win these elections but we have to wait and watch what happens next. The January elections and the result that will finally come out will show which party will hold the final majority in the US Senate.
