Hizzoner

It is surely true that history’s villains never know that they are villains — because they are not blessed with self-awareness. How else would one explain New York’s Michael Bloomberg — who once spent … 0h heck, the New York Post:

Bloomberg’s price of victory: $102M
By DAVID SEIFMAN City Hall Bureau Chief
Last Updated: 7:29 AM, November 28, 2009

Mayor Bloomberg has become the first person in US history to spend $100 million out of his own pocket to win municipal office.
His campaign yesterday released figures that showed the mayor burned through $102.1 million — and counting — to eke out a third-term victory over underfunded city Comptroller Bill Thompson.

The filings revealed that Bloomberg spent $18.7 million beginning Oct. 20 in the run-up to Election Day — more than $1 million a day.
Since he got just 585,466 votes — nearly 200,000 fewer than in 2005 — Bloomberg’s win by just 4.6 percentage points has, so far, cost him $174 a vote.

And this latest filing doesn’t even include the fat bonuses he has historically doled out to top aides at the end of the campaign year. If he does so again this time, they would be revealed in the January campaign filings.

By contrast, Thompson, whose filing is due Monday, is expected to have spent less than $10 million.…

Uh, when the 1% are the ones being protested, how historically clueless would you say Bloomberg’s little crackdown was?

Hizzoner’s pique was clearly well-oiled. The Press Conference after the raids inadvertently marked well the “wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command. “ Thus did Bloomberg vouchsafe Shelley’s Ozymandias:

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: “Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
‘My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!’
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

And we are left with the reality that the PROPERTY of the 99% was wantonly destroyed by the police action ordered by the 1%.

Thus proving that the only “property rights” they are concerned with is their own.

Alas, Ms. Antoinette, the “rabble” can only eat cake for so long.

And now Bloomberg has written his page in the history books. I don’t think it’s the page he intended history to read.

Courage.
