Watching Stephanopoulos interview McCain this morning on ABC, it struck me that he’s so easy to dislike that I can sometimes do it without even really thinking.
McCain: “If we start counting time sixteen months ago, it would prove that Obama would be happy to have Osama Bin Laden take over this country, or even Saddam [...]

The House just passed a Bill entitled “Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008”. It is said as of this writing that the Barney Frank version just given the okay in the House is the piece of legislation that will be passed imminently by the Senate, and that Pres. Bush has now agreed to sign [...]

It took a small item in my January 28, 2008 issue of Business Week magazine to do it but I finally really get where John Edwards was coming from in his approach to economic issues affecting the middle class. There is nothing automatically shocking, I suppose, about the British being more affluent now than we [...]

Just for fun, another meaningless exercise on another routine Saturday morning. CNN runs a web site which holds itself out as a place where 2008 Presidential Primary results can be found in a variety of formats. I’m sure that inquiring minds want to know, so I simply applied my calculator to what I found there [...]

Does a younger population that wants to feel like they live in a young country elect an old warhawk for their leader? It would be bad enough in 2008 if McCain would not be the oldest President ever, but for him to promise to continue an experience of military adventurism that is unpopular in the [...]

Melissa On Shakesville has some questions for Barack Obama in relation to his SOTU response last night. I think Melissa questions and concerns are all quite valid. Here’s a few quips from Shakes:
Responding to the SOTU address, Senator Obama concluded his remarks with the following:
Each year, as we watch the State of the Union, we [...]

The most intriguing part of the State of the Union Address for me was watching the Kansas Governor audition for the second spot on the Obama ticket. The main lesson I took from the entire experience, however, is that Obama is playing a dangerous game by creating expectations that he almost certainly cannot deliver on.
Sebelius [...]

My January 21, 2008 issue of Business Week Magazine contains a story that seems supremely important to me, and it’s even told there almost only in passing. Interestingly I can find nothing similar any place else, and why I find this surprising is that the situation highlighted seems to fairly scream that anyone voting Republican [...]

I feel like I woke up this morning and found boundary lines painted all over the surface of the planet, making it look like a Globe from space. But what if the entire Earth was inhabited by only one species of humans?
Or let’s put it another way. It was presumably okay when all of the [...]

The news of the day on the abortion front was prominent. Among the figures used in the various reports is one that says that fifty million abortions have been performed in the U.S. since Roe v. Wade. While that number can be approached from a variety of different vantage points, my reflection leads me to [...]
