Republicans have long howled that use of a Senate procedure known as reconciliation to approve healthcare reform would be out-of-bounds and amounts to a political act of war. An independent think tank, however, finds that use of reconciliation “would be fully consistent with past practice.”
Reconciliation becomes important because bills considered under the procedure cannot be [...]

House Republicans are looking rather absurd today after the White House rejected their call for a special session of Congress on energy:
Republican Study Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) and Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) asked President Bush to convene the special session in an Aug. 1 letter. The same day, House Republicans launched an unusual protest [...]

In today’s WaPo Dana Milbank uses his column to bite The Dark Lord, (no, not He-Who-Shall-Not-Be Named), VP Dick Cheney square on the ass while reporting also on Dennis Kucinch’s futile attempt to impeach George Bush. That effort died a quick death.
“Why so unwilling to impeach Bush? As Democratic leaders like to say, two words: [...]

The Dow slide 394 points today while “crude oil prices spiked over $138.” There is no relief in sight on the rising oil prices.
The pain at the pumps has been excruciating in recent weeks. Today, oil prices “shot up nearly $11 a barrel” and settled “at a record $138.54 on geopolitical jitters, a dollar decline and a [...]

This is tough to share with all my fellow Clinton supporters: ABC News reports that “Sen. Hillary Clinton will hold an event with supporters by Friday, likely ending her historic bid for the White House and ceding the Democratic nomination to Barack Obama.”
I can confirm, this is not a rumor, it’s not erroneously reported news [...]

I’ve been working on some quotes for my business today and mulling over what is next here for The Dem Daily, with the presidential primaries out of the way. It’s been a long drawn out primary season and emotions are high given the outcome not being as desirable for some as they had hoped. We [...]

As of now (7:05 PST), Hillary is laying a thumping on Obama in WV: 65-28%.
Since the IN and NC primaries, there has been a coronation of Obama as the Democratic nominee. Obama has planned his acceptance speech/party on May 20th. The media and blogger boiz have essentially ruled Hillary Clinton completely out of the race. [...]

Ring the bell and the Rightie attack dogs drool.
In a week characterized by some of the finest slurs lovingly hand-crafted by the ugliest, most racist, most hate-filled minds on the planet, they outdid themselves this morning.
MoveOn dot Org ran a full page ad in the New York Times today. The headline (the attention grabber): “General [...]

I think Bush saw the city as an example of [...]

The praise for the Democratic turnover, unthinkable even last spring, has focused individuals such as Sen. Chuck Schumer, DSCC and Rep Rahm Emanuel, DCCC . While their contributions, and other legislators led by Sen. John Kerry, were an important part; DNC Chair Howard Dean and the MoveOn Pac are also due recognition for the major roles they played.
