by WALTER BRASCH  I am a Jew.  I don’t mind receiving Christmas cards or being wished a “Merry Christmas” from friends, clerks, or even in junk mail trying to sell me something no sane person should ever buy. My wife and I even send Christmas cards, with messages of peace and joy, to our friends who are Christians or who we don’t know their religion.  I like Christmas music and Christmas carolers, even if some have voices that crack now...

But he hadn't IGNORED the blatant lie in the Romney ad, he'd BLOWN RIGHT PAST IT. Somehow the quaint notion of "lie" had simply passed through his consciousness as effortlessly as krill through a tuna net. Lying was considered normal and this was hardball, and what was everybody so upset about?

It is a profoundly anti-intellectual strain, the first naked statement of the "dumb it down" strain of "Conservatism" (which is, if you think about it, exceedingly radical, in wanting lots of social change as soon as possible) in demonizing "Liberalism" (which is, conversely, extremely "conservative" in continually protecting the status quo ante of the current social order).
