Sam Stein reports in the HuffPo that the House reached an agreement on Monday on establishing a “9/11-styled commission that would be independent of Congress and granted the power of subpoena to investigate the origins of the financial crisis.”
Aides on the Hill said that the House will likely vote on the measure Wednesday, adding that the [...]

Jeremy Scahill has the full scoop on the HuffPo. Also read Steve’s post at Newshoggers. Reuters reports the U.S. Military has denied “it has allowed soldiers to try to convert Afghans to Christianity.”
Reuters also notes that “Trying to convert Muslims to any other faith is a crime in Afghanistan.”

What would Abraham Lincoln, a Kentucky native and the first Republican president, make of his party as we celebrate his 200th birthday?
The Great Emancipator might be spinning in his tomb, according to Frank Schaeffer, an ex-Republican and Huffington Post regular.
“The Republican Party is only a step away from becoming the fringe of the fringe,” wrote [...]

Campbell Brown of CNN slapped Rush Limbaugh politely upside the head and offered to moderate a debate about the stimulus package after he attacked a guest she had on the night before. According to the tape below Rush thinks the economy is no worse than 1982. Given that I was in the Real Estate business, [...]

President Elect Barack Obama broke bread last night with a group pf conservative pundits at George Will’s home. Among the pundits reported to have partaked in the bread breaking were the “Weekly Standard’s William Kristol, New York Times columnist David Brooks, and Charles Krauthammer of the Washington Post.”

There really were shoes thrown at the President, apparently by reporter for an Iraqi television station, during a news conference. If this guy was that wacked out and that close to the President I’m glad it was only shoes.
Bush’s reaction time isn’t bad. Bush is pretty quick to duck a punch. Per MSNBC, “All I [...]

According to HuffPo’s James Boyce, Georgia Senator Saxby Chambliss, as despicable as ever, “has requested that he actually be excused from the December 2nd runoff against Jim Martin and just be declared the winner.”
It’s the bum knee, you see, the one that got him out of Vietnam.
Chambliss slimed Vietnam vet Max Cleland in ‘02, and [...]

Via Lawrence O’Donnell on the HuffPo:
When Colin Powell turns off his TV after the final presidential debate, he will have learned everything he is going to learn about the candidates vying to succeed his former boss, George W. Bush. Powell has made it clear that he has been thinking about an endorsement for a long [...]

Forget Sarah Palin… The opponent is John McCain and his stance on the issues represents more of the same, not change. That’s the message in Obama’s latest ad that focuses on equal pay for women:
On Monday, in a conference call with female supporters, Barack Obama and his aides outlined a new strategy to target women [...]

The view from above at John McCain’s rally at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena today was pretty damn bleak.
In a stadium that seats 16,000, John McCain addressed a paltry “crowd of roughly 3,000 people.” Sam Stein notes on the the HuffPO that “Bloomberg News reported on Sunday, the campaign has been exaggerating its crowd numbers.”
Well, [...]

John Kerry, our 2004 nominee, tore into John McCain tonight in his convention speech. He left no stone un-turned, he left as he pilloried John McCain with the “strongest language yet uttered from the convention podium.”
Seth Colter Walls notes on the HuffPo:
Kerry describes McCain as “insulting” and “desperate’ for questioning Obama’s patriotism, and “pathetic” for [...]

Despite claims to the contrary, Clinton donors gave Barack Obama $1.8 million in June:
Sen. Barack Obama has posted his first campaign report since the end of the contentious Democratic primary battle, and political reporters and bloggers are already trying to ferret out whether donors to Sen. Hillary Clinton have been helping her formal rival, now [...]
