The following is the prepared text of President Obama’s State of the Union address, delivered Jan. 27, 2010, as released by the White House:
Madame Speaker, Vice President Biden, Members of Congress, distinguished guests, and fellow Americans:
Our Constitution declares that from time to time, the President shall give to Congress information about the state of our [...]

“The White House struck back hard…against conservative pundits and town hall protesters who have compared the President to Hitler and his policies saying that the critics are ‘on thin ice’ and should ‘take that temperature down a bit,’” Sam Stein wrote on the Huffington Post blogsite.
By “the White House” Stein meant Robert Gibbs, Obama’s press [...]

I don’t believe that anyone should use a cell ph0ne while driving. California was ahead of the game on this one, but apparently ”seven years ago, the federal National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration recommended that drivers not use cell phones, even with hands-free equipment, while on the road except in emergencies.”
The proposals from the agency [...]

With some 46 million or more Americans with out health care coverage, we still need to “sell” this? Well with criticism coming from “Republican members of Congress and Republican consultants like Frank I. Luntz, an expert on the language of politics,” apparently we do, still need to “sell health care” to Americans.

In my last post, I noted the health care reform conference call that Howard Dean was on tonight. Speaking of health care reform, the Center for American Progress reports that more Americans are “losing health insurance every day” during the recession.
Employers are shedding hundreds of thousands of jobs every month—just last month employment declined by [...]

On Thursday, Senators Chuck Schumer and Chris Dodd called on the Federal Reserve to “freeze interest rate hikes on consumer credit card balances,” just hours before a meeting between credit card companies and the White House.
Noting that the Fed has used its emergency powers multiple times since 2007 in the context of the financial crisis, the senators [...]

I watched Obama’s press conference tonight, as I am sure most of our readers did as well. I felt overall he handled everything that was thrown at him with great confidence and aplomb. Obama used the press conference to stress the concept that “his budget and policy prescriptions are exactly what’s needed to get nation’s [...]

Congressional Republicans think Dick Cheney needs to go away, because “he’s hurting GOP efforts to reinvent itself after back-to-back electoral drubbings.”
Throughout his vice presidency, Cheney “showed a penchant for secrecy” but now he has “popped up in media interviews to defend the Bush-Cheney record while suggesting that the country is not as safe under President [...]

Consumer confidence has hit “the lowest point” since the Consumer Confidence Index began tracking in 1967.
The Conference Board said Tuesday that its Consumer Confidence Index edged lower in January to 37.7 from a revised 38.6 in December.
Consumers are worrying about keeping their jobs, their homes and they are watching their savings being whittled away. Businesses, [...]

Rep. Michelle Bachmann screwed the pooch on Chris Matthews Hardball last week suggesting that the press investigate the Congresspeople who were Anti-American. She was also concerned that Obama himself was Anti-American. (Anti-American members of Congress?) That charge started a deluge of donations for her opponent, Elwyn Tinklenberg, of over $1.4 million cash being now used [...]
