Celebrating the Prince of Peace in the Land of Guns …a letter from Michael Moore

Monday, December 24th, 2012 Friends, After watching the deranged, delusional National Rifle Association press conference on Friday, it was clear that the Mayan prophecy had come true. Except the only world that was ending was the NRA’s. Their bullying power to set gun policy in this country is over. The nation is repulsed by the massacre in Connecticut, and the signs are everywhere: a basketball coach at a post-game press conference; the Republican Joe Scarborough; a pawn shop owner in Florida; a gun buy-back program in New Jersey; a singing contest show on TV, and the conservative gun-owning judge who sentenced Jared Loughner. So here’s my little bit of holiday cheer for you: These gun massacres aren’t going to end … Continue reading

Bloomberg: ‘Calling for Meaningful Action Is Not Enough’

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg had some harsh words in response to President Obama’s statement earlier today on the unfathomably tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut this morning. Bloomberg said, “we need action, not rhetoric to deal with gun violence.” “President Obama rightly sent his heartfelt condolences to the families in Newtown. But the country needs him to send a bill to Congress to fix this problem. Calling for ‘meaningful action’ is not enough,” said Bloomberg in a statement. ”We have heard all the rhetoric before. What we have not seen is leadership – not from the White House and not from Congress.” In his response to the tragedy, a teary-eyed Obama said “we’re going to have to come together … Continue reading

Olympians Medal in London, While the NRA Meddles in Harrisburg

Most hunters, as well as the Pennsylvania Game Commission, say … Continue reading

IS Oklahoma actually OK?

So, one wonders, how come there is so little discussion of this equally sacred (to Nine-Lebbin) day of Remembrance? And isn’t it interesting to compare and contrast Ted Nugent’s recent comments? Continue reading

On Trayvon Martin… When Will It End

I’m a white woman from a small town in Massachusetts, but I spent 19 years living in Los Angeles. I raised my only child, my white daughter in inner city L.A. schools where she was a minority. Many of her school friends were black, many of my friends in L.A. are black with black sons, and every time I read another piece on Trayvon Martin, my heart breaks a little more. We lived in L.A. during the Rodney King riots… I’ve seen up close and personal the way black men were targeted in the inner city by white cops. I abhore racism. I abhore gun violence. And I abhore laws that allow guns in the hands of the wrong people. I get the whole … Continue reading
