George W. Bush is doing an about face on a longstanding position on offshore drilling, and is calling on Congress today “to end a federal ban on offshore oil drilling, according to White House officials who say Mr. Bush now wants to work with states to determine where drilling should occur.”

Oil executives testified before the Senate on Wednesday, defending their huge profits and high salaries, while “regular people are scrimping to pay for gasoline to go to work.” Senator Pat Leahy decided he “wanted to make it personal for the men of Big Oil.”

The NY Times is reporting today that Wal-Mart’s profits are down, they announced the “smallest quarterly profit growth in four years yesterday.”
